COMMENTS:

Valentine & Sons is one of the most prolific publisher of Classic Disney postcards. The number of Disney cards published by Valentine is in the hundreds.

Cards in the Real Photo series contain the designation on the back "This is a real photo" along the center line that divides the address and message. Since the subjects on these cards could not have been literally photographed, it is likely that this designation means that the drawing outline was reproduced by photographic means. Color was thereafter applied to each card by hand, as evidenced by different quality in coloring and color scheme variations between cards with the same image. The Real Photo cards include cards that have plain borders, scolloped borders (colored red or green on their edges) and embossed borders (fan-shaped, linked flowers / vines, linked ivy leaves, alternating flowers and alphas (see below), and linked round flowers).
